Francisco López presents a quite literally immersive recording "created from evolution of original environmental recordings done at multiple underwater and abovewater locations in the Paraná and Paraguay rivers (Argentina and Paraguay). The piece runs for 55 minutes oscillating through waves of subbass to intensely unreal and dry hi-pitches crackles, passages of near inaudible frequency manipulation and more tangible, captivating animal/insect sounds.

For the third year running, Sonar and Cosmocaixa once again join forces to offer the Barcelona audience a sonic performance in the science museum which goes beyond the boundaries of a conventional concert.

CosmoCaixa. June 16th - 19th.

On this occasion, the programme contains major changes. First, it covers a single theme, “Sound Aviaries: music and birds”, examining the relationships between human ability, multimedia art and birdsong from various perspectives. And second, it is expanded to various disciplines, including sonic and audiovisual installations, live performances, concerts and talks.

The programme will include the participation of artists as renowned as Germany’s Jan Jelinek, Sweden’s BJ Nilsen and Carl Michael Von Hausswolff, Francisco López, Japan’s Sawako and a special installation by ALKU (the Catalan duo Roc Jiménez de Cisneros and Anna Ramos), which includes pieces by Oswald Berthold, Chris Brown, Anders Dahl, Joe Gilmore, Roc Jiménez de Cisneros, Fredrik Olofsson, Tim Perkis and Peter Worth.

‘Hyper-Rainforest’ has been developped and structured as a site-specific concert-installation for the Concert Hall of EMPAC. It operates with a specially installed large multi-channel set-up consisting of a large number of speakers arranged in two imbricated domes around, above, and below the audience, as well as a sound spatialization system that combines automation and manual live control. It is thus a sonic immersive experience where the traditional ‘tools of illusion’ (microphones, speakers) that are typically used for mimesis or simulation are instead turned into phenomenological probes and generators of hyperreality.
The original environmental recordings were done between 1990 and 2010 at multiple locations of tropical, sub-tropical and cold rainforests in: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Gambia, Mexico, Myanmar (Burma), New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Japan, Senegal, South Africa, USA, Venezuela.
