SONM - sound archive of experimental music and sound art
Established in 2010 by Francisco López
Official opening at the “Puertas de Castilla” Cultural Center in Murcia, Spain
SONM has been created as a public access resource with the entire collection of experimental music and sound art gathered by Francisco López over the past thirty years of direct exchange with thousands of sound artists worldwide. With nearly 5,000 items on cassette, vinyl, CD, and DVD, this exceptional sound archive is predominantly composed of very small editions -in many cases self-editions by the artists themselves- embracing all kinds of aesthetics, movements, labels, and imaginable manifestations of the global underground for the past three decades and into the future. Electronic, noise, concrete, industrial, glitch, improvisation, turntablism, avant-garde, etc. etc.
Hosted now permanently at the “Puertas de Castilla” Cultural Center in Murcia (Spain) the sound archive is now being cataloged and partially digitalized for both the physical and online public access. A preliminary version of the website for the sound archive (only in Spanish; English version to follow very soon) is already up:

Live collaboration performance: Pauline Oliveros, Francisco Lopez, Doug Van Nort & Jonas Braasch
An Evening with Pauline Oliveros, Francisco Lopez, Doug Van Nort & Jonas Braasch
Friday, September 17, 2010 - 8:00pm - 10:00pm
$10
Deep Listening Space, 77 Cornell St, Suite 303, Kingston NY
Part of Deep Listening Institute's ‘Under the Radar’ Concert Series.
An evening of psycho-electro-acoustics and free improvisation
featuring Pauline Oliveros, Francisco López, Doug Van Nort and Jonas Braasch
Please join us for a very special evening that promises to span a vast sonic terrain, challenging listener and performer alike through a seamless blend of Deep Listening and Absolute Noise, moving between ever-fluid improvisation and carefully controlled sound manipulation.
This quartet convened for two improvisational sessions between February and May of this year, with López sitting in on a Triple Point recording session and bringing his finely crafted sonic objects-as-instruments, further spanning the electro-acoustic divide that has become Triple Point's calling, with their blending virtual accordion, greis sound transformation system and soprano saxophone. These sessions have since become raw material for the individual artists to construct new visions of this shared sonic body - personal reflections culled from a collective tapestry.
This concert will feature these new personalized interpretations, presented with an expansive 16 channel sound system at the one and only Deep Listening Institute! Moving back from the personal to the collective, this will be followed by the world premiere of the new quartet in full improvisatory mode! Fragments from this crafted past will blend with reactions to the moment, sonic gestures being shared between players and sculpted within this unique space.
NOT to be missed!!

"Listening to Noise and Silence"
CRiSAP invites you to a series of events to celebrate the launch of
‘Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art’
by Salomé Voegelin
The events will be held in the Podium Lecture Theatre, London College of
Communication,18:00-20:00
22 June: “Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art”; Angus Carlyle and Salomé
Voegelin debate the relationship between philosophy, sound and art. This
conversation considers the ways in which the book seeks to develop a
critique of sound art on its own terms – rather than according to any
abstract themes. This will be followed by a drinks reception in the
Eckersley Gallery.
29 June: “Sonic Approaches to Place”; Jennie Savage, Peter Cusack and
Salomé Voegelin debate the spatio-temporal circumstance of sound and the
sonic-subject; a discussion of place recorded, rendered and produced in
sound.
6 July: “Listening”; Brandon LaBelle, Francisco Lopez and Salomé Voegelin
debate listening as an activity and an interactivity that shapes the
production and perception of the sound artwork as well as of the listening
subject.

Sonic Acts Festival XIII
The Poetics of Space
Spatial Explorations in Art, Science, Music and Technology
Amsterdam, 25-28 February 2010
Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand with Francisco López
Ten Thousand Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid
In Ten Thousand Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid, Domnitch and Gelfand use a white laser to scan the surfaces of nucleating and dissipating soap bubble clusters. Unlike ordinary light, the laser’s focused beam is capable of crawling through the microscopic structures within a bubble’s skin. When aimed at specific angles, this penetrating light generates a large-scale
hemispherical projection of molecular interactions as well as mind-boggling phenomena of non-linear optics. Bubble behaviours viewed in such proximity evoke the dynamics of living cells (the lipid membranes of which, are direct chemical descendants of soap films). In collaboration with sound artist Francisco López, they employ direct membrane sonification as well as
incidental and improvisational techniques. Emanating from a prolific palette of field recordings, the organic materiality of López’s sound environment incites a saturated cross-sensory coalescence with Domnitch and Gelfand’s proto-biotic imagery.
Dmitry Gelfand (RU) and Evelina Domnitch (BY) create sensory immersion environments that merge physics, chemistry and computer science with uncanny philosophical practices. They have collaborated with numerous scientific research facilities to create installations that exist as ever-transforming phenomena that take place directly in front of the observer without intermediation, thereby often serving to vastly extend the observer’s sensory envelope.
Francisco López (ES) has developed an astonishing sonic universe based on a profound listening of the world. His extensive catalogue of sound pieces have been released by more than 200 record labels worldwide.
